Kazakhstan is latest country to launch national Child Development Account policy

Kazakhstan has introduced a groundbreaking Child Development Account (CDA) policy, guided by insights from the Center for Social Development at the Brown School. This strategy aims to utilize the country’s natural resources to invest in its children, bolstering human capital. Dr. Michael Sherraden, founding director of CSD and George Warren Brown Distinguished University Professor, hailed this as a vital step forward, emphasizing the policy’s role in generating equitable opportunities for all children and fostering a robust economy for the future.

“The Kazakhstan CDA policy may serve as a model for other nations, showing how natural-resource revenue can benefit the whole population. Three billion people live in low- to middle-income countries with natural-resource wealth, yet most of this wealth is currently not developing the population. CDAs could become a more positive strategy.”
